Quality compost can be produced with good feed stock and many different types of equipment. Successful composting systems range from simple windrows turned occasionally with a bucket loader to engineered in-vessel systems. Basic monitoring equipment like thermometers and oxygen meters can be useful in adjusting the composting process. (Selections of compost equipment should be based on a business plan.) A computer-based compost modeling program may help with decisions concerning time, space available, economics, bulking material, equipment, composting system and more.
