Quality compost can be produced with good feed stock and many different types of equipment. Successful composting systems range from simple windrows turned occasionally with a bucket loader to engineered in-vessel systems. Basic monitoring equipment like thermometers and oxygen meters can be useful in adjusting the composting process. (Selections of compost equipment should be based on a business plan.) A computer-based compost modeling program may help with decisions concerning time, space available, economics, bulking material, equipment, composting system and more. This is not an exclusive list. If there is relevant equipment that is not listed here, contact us at cwmi@cornell.edu so it can be added.
